Since the Puritans landed on Plymouth Rock, some 100 million people have voluntarily moved to America. Immigrants have founded cities, established universities, accumulated vast fortunes, built the railroads, labored in the great industrial centers, and, by virtue of their diversity, creative energy, and vitality, made the United States the cultural capital of the world.-The ten coins in this collection come from three of the four great waves of migration—the pre-1776 Colonial era, the Northern Europe wave of 1840-89, and the Southern and Eastern European wave of 1890-1919—and represent ten of the major ethnic groups who came to America.
